We have a roof!!

Our roof tiles have been going up over this last week and a half... we love the flat profile, really gives the finish we were after.

The electrician has been back and completed the wiring too.

We are ready and waiting for the plaster and render now!! Hopefully Monday...

Our roof is on the horizon!!!

River has some exciting news to share (yes he's the new poster pup for Aubin Grove, but no it's not that!)

That's right, our beautiful monier horizon flat profile tiles were delivered today!!

We're pretty excited and can't wait for them to go up.

We are both really glad that we made the decision to go with these tiles as they should finish the overall look off nicely. I have to say that seeing these this afternoon was quite the moment.. it got me to thinking about our approach to this build, how in synch we are with our tastes and I feel really lucky with that.

Here's the latest shot of the portico...

And some of the plumbers handywork:

Some of you may remember the story of our tap some months ago (wayyy back in October) --- link here ---

Well our much awaited tap is now really real, and has been placed on the wall... It's matured quite nicely over the last few months don't you think!

Of course our waterbaby River had to check it worked okay!

Hopefully we'll have more to update very soon!

electrified, gassed and guttered

It seems the action is starting to ramp up again properly now... the roof carpenters have finished their part, the electrician has been working on all the cabling (still going), the plumber has been to do the gas connections and mark out the water etc and we have gutters!!!!

After all the insanely hot weather we hardly expected much to happen but we've been pleasantly surprised.

Sooooo looking forward to the roof tiles being delivered and started... I think it will look like a 'real' house then!

Photos.....

The sparkies work in progress.... I should note that Michael is impressed with their work, saying it is "very neat". From our experience to date, this is the area that Goodlife excels in - their tradies are really neat and do a real quality job. Really happy with that!!!

This shows one of the gas pipes - riveting I know!!

Here's under the verandah, looking in. You can see the ceiling completed underneath.

And now for the piece de resistance... the gutters!

And here is the roof prep work on top of the timber started - don't ask me for the technical term because I just don't know it!

Hopefully there will be more to update later this evening - go tradies go!!!!

They're back baby!!!!!

Work has ramped up again for the new year!!

The roof carpenters were back onsite yesterday working on the front verandah / alfresco area and portico. I'm really looking forward to seeing it finished properly, painted with the tiles on and rendered etc because right now that portico looks a little dinky to me!! I'm sure it will come together when it's finished.

I know I keep saying it but it really does feel that bit more 'real' each time we see some progress. What's scary is that working out our contract time etc we are looking at approx 15 weeks to go.... which is April. It's mid Jan already! Our saving skates are well and truly on....

We're going down to our house again this afternoon, hopefully there will be more to update again!

Still waiting... update

Noone on site yesterday.....

Hopefully today...? I've emailed the builder so we can get an idea of when they might be back.

They have said that the roof carpenters will be finished by Thursday this week, and the roof cover completed by the end of next week ready for the plastering etc to start. WOOHOO!!

We're more than ready to see some action now!!!

Time for work tradies!!!!!

Today should be the day that work starts back up on our house! That's right tradies, no more sleep ins, no more enjoying the summer holidays lazing about, you're back at work like the rest of us poor buggers.

We're really looking forward to seeing some progress after the long break... can't wait to see the roof finished, and the plaster, and the windows, and..... everything.

We have used the time to really get organised, sorting our current place out, decluttering and donating a heap of stuff. The vinnies are coming today to pick up 2 dining tables, an outdoor setting, lots of kitchen bits and 3 bags of linen and clothes etc. It feels really good to be letting go of that stuff, and there is a lot more to go. I am trying to kill the inner hoarder inside me!!!!!

Our new leather couches arrived on Friday. They're sooo comfy! I'm really glad we decided to go with them because they really work with our other new furniture - the old couch just wouldn't suit.

We are also working on the landscaping component which keeps evolving as we go along...  we have a lot more brainstorming, research and planning to do there but it's been really enjoyable so far.

I think we both need another two jobs to do all that we want to do with this place!!!!!

Roof timber update

---------- this is a delayed telecast -----------

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a great New Years!!!

With all the holiday season shenanigans I decided the blog should be allowed a break too... but we're back on deck and ready for the hectic months ahead!

Before Christmas the roof guys put in a few solid days work - and we can't express how much we appreciate the stage we're up to now.

The front verandah and alfresco has the lined roof cover which is so enjoyable to sit under already (yes, in the dirt!!). The roof timber is really close to being finished now so we're just waiting for the guys to come back from their well deserved break.
